Tom Swaninger is the superintendent of Arizona's Sedona-Creek School District, a post he's held since 2009.
Jill Swaninger is an English teacher in the district and his wife, Jill Sharer, is also an English teacher in the district and has been married to Tom since 1999.
"We're a great balance," Jill Swaninger tells KVOA.
"In my younger years I tended to be more cautious, and he was more adventurous, and Besides that, he always has believed in me, too, sometimes to my detriment.
Like when he taught me how to mountain bike, he took me out on a tough trail and I have the scars to prove it."
The Swaners have three daughters: 12-year-old Holly, 16-year-old Phoebe, and 20-year-old Macy.
"I believe that there is more joy in the teaching position than anywhere else," Tom Swaninger says.
" truth it does offer a bit of context to pull from as each [child] navigates through the complexities of the complexities of life."
